The French Girl

It's her time to go home after
months in Latin America
So I'll ask if she misses it there
Have you been homesick

No
She says she doesn't miss things
Anything, really
Not her family, friends, clothes
Places
If I lose the things so be it
& I will be so happy to see them, of course
But while we are not together
I do not miss for them
I'll only wish for them
Love

And I thought, Oh yes, I've heard of this
It's an enlightened state
Nostalgia-less-ness
That a mind unbound by
memory
makes real freedom

Later,
Come to think of it, she must be young
Just beginning her 20s
Not old enough to cultivate disaster
Too early to long for life before...
... that she hasn't yet
found & lost
enough to be
devastated.

Then I thought, my god, what a projection!
You don't know how life finds her

Read twice in different places that week:
"Your self-pity is arrogance"
*the past versions of your life are within you*

So I'm here to say
That was near the day that
I came over missing.
…
